A collection of my favorite hikes and rifugi in the Dolomites,
a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site.
Rosszähne - Denti di Terrarossa
Some of these hikes are challenging for the most seasoned mountaineer while others are more accessible to the casual wanderer. All of them, however, are spectacular and worth the effort. Follow the trails in the maps as they cross high passes, meander through enchanting alpine meadows, traverse steep slopes and eventually take you back to your car, preferably along a different trail so that you can explore more of the breathtaking mountains.
Schlernhaus - Rifugio Bolzano
The huts of the Dolomites (Hütten in German, rifugi in Italian) are mountain lodges, usually in traditional alpine architecture. Spaced at 2-3 hour intervals along the trails, they offer a bed and breakfast and warm home-made dishes during most hours of the day. The hallmark of a rifugio is a warm and welcoming atmosphere and the chance to experience camaraderie with fellow hikers and mountaineers from around the world.
